The Prime Minister of Singapore, H.E Lee launched the ASEAN Scholarship for Tourism (AST) offered by ATRA. He suggested three ways to go beyond a marketing campaign to drive growth in the region : Strengthen air links within ASEAN, promote cruises within the region and develop talent in the industry. ATRA is supporting this campaign by developing talent in the industry, providing them an academic upgrade and in order to contribute to the tourism industry in ASEAN.

ATRC was organised on 18th January 2017 at James Cook University Singapore. Forty papers from delegates from various ASEAN countries, Asia and Australia were presented. It gave opportunities for discussing tourism issues from a different perspectives including Business, Sociology, Communication, Geography, Economics, Archeology, Transports, Anthropology and Marketing.

ATRA was invited to facilitate the ASEAN Tourism Structure Plan (ATSP) preliminary workshop in Singapore. This workshop helped to prepare for the new ATSP 2016-2025 series of meeting.
